Development of a polymer component for automotive oil mist separator

The aim of this development project was the substitution of aluminum with polymer for the production of existing oil mist separator connection part for 13 liters diesel engines. Oil mist separators are mechanical assemblies, which are used in commercial diesel engines for reducing oil consumption up to 30 liters per year. This connecting part is a multifunctional component, which represents the physical connection between the separation part of the oil mist separator and the engine block. By substituting aluminum with polymer the weight of the part is reduced by 15% leading to less CO2 emissions. This also reduce production costs and environmental impact.
